Lobby and advocacy strategies to promote socio-economic rights of youth
- Created on 05 September 2013
Between August 22 and August 30, the Association for Children and Youth "Făclia" organized a training course in lobby and advocacy strategies to promote decent work and socio-economic rights of youth, addressed to the representatives of socio-economic actors and civil society organizations in the districts: Ungheni, Fălești, Călărași and Căușeni. The event was organized within the project “Decent work for YOUth – Improving the social economic situation of young people in Moldova by empowering Moldovan youth and Moldovan civil society”, implemented in partnership with CNV Internationaal from the Netherlands and the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova and financed by the European Union Delegation in the Republic of Moldova.
The goal of training was to familiarize the participants with the concepts of advocacy and lobbying, to develop their communication, public presentation, persuasion and negotiation skills. The beneficiaries of the training have also learned about the structure of the lobby and advocacy strategies as well as the situations when they must be applied to ensure the success of the promoted cause. An important exercise of the training was the planning and development of lobbying and advocacy campaigns based on real case studies. Thus, participants gained the necessary practical skills to promote the decent work concept and socio-economic rights of youth in their communities.
Angela Ciocîrlan, national coordinator of the project, prezident of the Association for Children and Youth "Faclia": “ Promoting the decent work and socio-economic rights of young people is not easy. It is not easy to persuade an employer to hire the staff i.e. on the basis of a labor contracts and pay legal wages. For that we need the right tools, tactics, Lobby and advocacy strategies, to be adapted to the reality of local communities. Therefore we intended to have within the project a training course in advocacy and lobby.”
Tatiana Chilaru, President of the "PRO-MED" Community Association, Ungheni, participant: “Decent Work and socio-economic rights of young people is a stringent issue for the Moldovan reality. There are hundreds of young people working illegally in miserable conditions, they accept even this humbles them. Want to get involved in lobby and advocacy actions to promote the rights of our youth. Now I do know how and what to do to obtain the expected results.”
The training in Lobby and advocacy brought together 15 representatives of socio-economic actors and civil society organizations. Thus, representatives of trade unions, labor inspection, public officials, and civil society organizations in the four pilot districts of the project will create and implement strategies and Lobby and advocacy campaigns for a year and a half until the finish of the project.
